Penn National opens first Barstool retail sportsbook

News

Penn National Gaming (PNG) has announced has announced the launch of its first Barstool Sports-branded retail sportsbook in the US.

The Barstool-branded sports betting facility opened yesterday (November 5) at the operator’s Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk in Colorado.

Located on the second floor of the casino, the new sportsbook will feature sports betting kiosks and ticket writer stations, as well as a video wall and odds boards allowing customers to watch live sports events.

The launch is the result of a partnership signed in January, which saw PNG take a 36% stake in Barstool, while the two parties also agreed to work together on sports wagering and online casino projects.

The full opening of the new facility comes after a period of testing that began in September. Barstool retail sportsbooks are planned for other states across the US.

“This will be the first of many new retail locations for Barstool Sportsbooks at our casinos nationwide,” PNG president and chief executive Jay Snowden said.

“Each will incorporate several features that reflect the spirit of the Barstool Sports brand, resulting in unique sports betting experiences that we expect our customers will thoroughly enjoy.”

The opening comes after PNG last week reported a 16.6% drop in revenue for its third quarter, though earnings reached record highs as the business bounced back from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) shutdown.

Revenue totalled $1.13bn in Q3, while net profit for the period was $141.2m, up 223.1%.
