BCLC launches budget and spending limit tool

News

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has introduced PlayPlanner, a new budgeting tool to help land-based players control their gambling.

Using PlayPlanner, members of BCLC’s Encore Rewards loyalty program can set themselves spending or play session limits at the operator’s community gaming halls and casinos.

During each gambling session, they will be sent pop-up alerts if they are about to exceed their self-imposed limits.

Players can select a maximum weekly deposit limit between CAN $1 and CAN $9,999 and their gambling history is easily accessible on the device throughout their play session.

“We’ve created PlayPlanner to make it easier for players to stay within personal limits by making decisions about time and money before gambling,” BCLC director for player health Dr. Jamie Wiebe explained.

“We are committed to ensuring that this tool meets the needs of our players now and into the future as part of our focus on supporting healthy play.”

In July, BCLC reported record-high revenue for the 2018-19 fiscal year ended 31 March. Its full-year revenue of CAD$2.59bn included a $149.8m contribution from its igaming offering.
