Betfred secures online sports betting license in Maryland

News

Betfred has become the eighth operator to secure a license to offer online sports betting in Maryland, while the group also opened a new retail sportsbook in Nevada.

Issued by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission, the license will enable Betfred to roll out its Betfred Sportsbook mobile wagering app in the state.

Maryland opened its regulated online betting market in November last year, with Barstool, BetRivers, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel and PointsBet among the other operators licensed in the state.

Meanwhile, the operator announced the opening of its new retail sportsbook at Mohegan Casino inside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in the Nevada city.

The facility features over-the-counter wagering services and a large video wall showing live coverage of a wide range of sports events.

The launch marks Betfred’s first venture into Nevada, though the operator is also licensed in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Louisiana, Arizona, Washington, Virginia and Ohio, as well as Maryland.

Earlier this month, Betfred entered into a partnership with Nevada-based NHL franchise the Vegas Golden Knights, serving as the team’s official sports betting partner.
