Betsson launches Betsafe in Ontario following license approvals

News

Betsson has announced the launch of its Betsafe brand in Ontario after it secured approval for operator and supplier licenses in the Canadian province.

The B2C Betsafe offering in Ontario will include online casino and sports betting, with the brand to run on the Strive Gaming platform, which is part-owned by Betsson.

Players in the province will be able to gamble with Betsafe via native mobile apps and on the ot.betsafe.com local website.

Betsafe will run under the new operator licence, while Betsson will also be able to offer its sportsbook product on a B2B basis to other operators with the supplier license.

“We are pleased to obtain the necessary licenses to operate with both a B2C and B2B offering in the locally regulated online gaming market in Ontario,” Betsson president and chief executive Pontus Lindwall said.

“We are convinced that there are great opportunities for Betsson in Ontario in both the B2C and B2B channels as we bring a highly competitive offering to the market.”

The launch comes after Betsson earlier this month said that a record performance in the fourth quarter, driven by high activity and new customers, helped the group to its “best ever year” in 2022.

Betsson revealed that revenue for the 12 months to December 31 increased 18% year-on-year to €777.2m.
