Cody Chapman becomes Mohegan PR director

News

Tribal gaming operator Mohegan has appointed Cody Chapman as its new public relations director.

Chapman, a member of the Mohegan Tribe, has been with Mohegan since 2007. He was named PR manager for the Mohegan Sun, the group’s flagship property in Connecticut, in 2015.

As PR director, Chapman will guide the public relations team and strategize goals for the department, working closely with corporate leadership, Mohegan Sun leadership, corporate communications and Mohegan PR firm, Coyne PR.

Chapman and new public relations manager Charisse Huff will assist on external communication strategies and oversee media relations for Mohegan Sun and other Mohegan properties, with a focus on the Northeast. Both Chapman and Huff will also provide PR support for Mohegan Digital, which is Mohegan’s iGaming division.

As PR manager, Huff will steer day-to-day PR as well as lead efforts for major announcements, key events and milestones across Mohegan Sun, as well as Mohegan Pennsylvania and Resorts Casino Hotel in Atlantic City. Mohegan PR, which services Mohegan Sun, Mohegan Pennsylvania and other Mohegan properties, is led by vice-president of corporate communications, Jennifer Ballester.

Last month, Mohegan CEO Raymond Pineault hailed the casino operator’s diversification strategy after online gaming and sports betting activities drove an overall increase in net revenues and earnings in the corporation’s fiscal first quarter. In the three months through to the end of December 2022, net revenues increased year-on-year by 1.2% from $402.0m to $406.6m, leading to a 3.8% increase in adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) from $97.4m to $101.1m.

Mohegan was recently named operator for the Soloviev Group’s bid to open a casino in New York City’s Freedom Plaza. The Freedom Plaza project would feature a substantial green area, a state-of-the-art performance venue, Ferris Wheel, a 1,000+ room first-class hotel, and two residential towers.
