Cordish reveals plans for new Louisiana casino

News

Cordish Companies has set out master project plans to redevelop the Diamond Jacks Casino & Hotel in Louisiana into a new Live! casino resort and entertainment destination.

Scheduled to open in 2025 and subject to final approval by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board, Cordish said Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana would represent an investment of more than $250m.

The resort would replace the existing riverboat casino and feature more than 47,000sq ft of gaming space including over 1,000 slots and electronic table games and in excess of 30 live action table games.

The facility would also include a hotel with over 400 rooms, a multi-purpose event center and a range of dining and entertainment venues.

Cordish said that it would work with Foundation Gaming & Entertainment, state and local officials, and the community to bring the project to fruition.

The announcement comes after Cordish earlier this month said that it had agreed to acquire and redevelop Diamond Jacks Casino & Hotel.

The facility has been closed since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, with Cordish saying it would carry out major construction work at the location to replace the existing riverboat casino with a new, land-based casino.

“Live! Casino & Hotel Louisiana will be a world-class resort destination that brings a first-class gaming, dining, entertainment and hospitality experience to the region, creates significant new jobs, and generates millions of dollars in economic benefits for the community,” Cordish managing partner Joe Weinberg said.

Louisiana Gaming Control Board chairman Ronnie Johns added: “The Board looks forward to working with Cordish to bring a world class casino and entertainment destination to the Bossier/Shreveport market.

“The reputation of Cordish Companies throughout the country to own and operate first class casinos, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment destinations is exemplary. We thank Cordish for choosing Louisiana to bring their expertise and major investment to our gaming market.”
