Elys secures conditional sports betting approval in Ohio

News

Gaming technology provider Elys Game Technology has secured conditional approval for a sports betting proprietor license in Ohio.

Issued by the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), the Type C sports gaming proprietor licensure will enable Elys to roll out its sports betting technology in the state.

Ahead of this launch, Elys has entered an agreement to purchase 100 point-of-sale terminals and 100 self-service betting terminals for installation at host locations throughout Ohio.

Licensure will run for a period of five years and will come into effect from January 1, 2023, the date on which Ohio’s legal sports betting market will open.

However, the full roll-out of Elys services in the state is contingent on the provider obtaining all further required certifications and licensing.

Elys is the latest business to secure approval after Hall of Fame Resort & Entertainment Company (HOFV) was also issued a license earlier this month. HOFV will operate in Ohio through partnerships with Rush Street Interactive and Betr.

Gamewise was granted approval to operate an online skin in partnership with Miami Valley & Racing, while the latter was also issued a second license without an online partner.

In addition, Hard Rock was approved to operate sports betting in the state.
