Facebook debuts new free-to-play predictions games

News

Social media giant Facebook has launched free-to-play daily sports prediction game Pick & Play Sports as it debuts its new Facebook Fantasy Games series in North America.

Facebook Fantasy Games are a range of free, simple prediction games designed to help fans enjoy sports, TV shows and pop culture content together. The games, which will be available in the US and Canada, allow players to compete in fantasy leagues and public leaderboards.

Launching today (Thursday), Pick & Play Sports, developed with Whistle Sports, gives fans the opportunity to earn points by predicting results and points scorers in major sports fixtures.

Another game to be released in the coming months is MLB Home Run Picks, which lets fans pick the teams they think will hit the most home runs during that day’s action. Running through the Major League Baseball postseason, players can also earn points based on correct predictions and whether their team hits home runs or grand slams.

LaLiga Winning Streak will let fans predict a single team that will win in Spanish football’s top division on that day. Players will try to build the longest streak possible of correct predictions.

Facebook is also planning new predictions games based on TV shows like CBS’s Survivor and ABC’s The Bachelorette.

A Facebook spokesperson said: “These games bring the social fun of traditional fantasy sports to simpler formats that are easy to play for people new to prediction games, while still engaging enough for more seasoned players.

“In addition to public leaderboards, players can create their own fantasy league and compete against friends and other fans. Leagues, which can be public or private, will allow members to compare scores to others in the league and provide a place for members to share picks, reactions and comments.”

Facebook members on iOS and Android can discover Fantasy Games from the bookmark menu and in news feed through notifications.
