FanDuel marks return of US sport with $80m giveaway

News

Sports betting and daily fantasy sports operator FanDuel has announced details of a new initiative, where it will distribute more than $80m in site credits to its customers to celebrate the return of professional sport in the US.

All major league competitions in the country had been suspended due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, but a number of leagues are due to return within the next few weeks.

The National Basketball Association (NBA) league will begin on July 30, while the regular Major League Baseball (MLB) season is set to start tomorrow (23 July), and the National Hockey League (NHL) from August 1.

To mark the return of professional sport, FanDuel will credit each US customer that holds a daily fantasy sports account or an online sportsbook account with an extra $10 in site credit.

Customers will be able to use the credits on FanDuel daily fantasy contests and to place legal sports wagers. There are no state restrictions and the offer will be available to new and current customers.

In addition, as part of the new initiative, FanDuel will offer risk free betting up to $100 for all users on their first day back to the site from July 21.

“We are excited for the return of sports and wanted to give all of our customers a chance to get in on the action for free,” FanDuel’s chief marketing officer Mike Raffensperger said.

“Putting more than $80m in site credits into our customers’ accounts to enter DFS contests or to make legal sports bets is a thank you to our customers for their loyalty during this long stretch without the NBA, NHL and MLB.”
