Maryland Gaming Commission approves two more sports betting licenses

News

Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission has granted two additional sports betting licenses to Hollywood Casino in Perryville and Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin.

The pair join MGM National Harbor, Horseshoe Casino Baltimore and Live! Casino and Hotel Maryland in obtaining sports betting licenses within the state from the Gaming Commission – of which John Martin was appointed director back in July.

Hogan said: “No one is pushing harder than I am to get sports betting up and running here in the State of Maryland. Our administration has now cleared five licenses for sports betting, implementing the referendum approved by voters and the law passed by the General Assembly.

“With Marylanders looking forward to betting on the NFL and March Madness, we now expect the legislature’s Sports Wagering Applicant Review Commission to swiftly approve these licenses.”

Penn National Gaming received approval to complete its $31.1m acquisition of Hollywood Casino Perryville from the Gaming Commission back in May.

Sports betting was legalized in Maryland back in May after Governor Larry Hogan signed bill HB 940 into law. People in the state voted in favour of sports betting – 66.2% – during a 2020 referendum.
