Mississippi sports betting spend edges up in August

Consumer spending on sports betting in Mississippi was 0.9% higher year-on-year in August, while revenue in the state remained level.

Monthly handle in Mississippi amounted to $21.4m (£17.4m/€20.1m), up from $21.2m in August 2022. This was also 20.9% ahead of $17.7m in July this year.

Revenue for the month hit $2.7m, level with the same month last year and 8.0% more than $2.5m in July.

As has been the case for some time, coastal casinos were again the most popular venues among Mississippi players. Consumers spent $13.6m betting on sports at coastal casinos, with revenue amounting to $1.6m.

Total sports betting spend at central casinos amounted to $5.2m in August and revenue $730,257.

Finally, northern casinos took a total of $2.6m in sports bets during the month and posted $371,721 in overall revenue.

As to what players were betting on, baseball remained the most popular sport in the state. Some $7.2m was spent betting on baseball at coastal casinos, as well as $2.0m at central venues and $1.2m at northern locations.
