Playmaker launches new betting venture as poker star Gross invests

News

Digital sports media business Playmaker announced the launch of a new content vertical for the sports betting and revealed renowned poker player Jeff Gross as its latest investor.

Playmaker Betting will feature a range of sports betting content, events and games with the aim of improving engagement with players and fans between the ages of 21 and 34.

Playmaker soft-launched the new sports betting vertical in early August in partnership with a number of operators including BetMGM and Circa Sports, and will now seek to extend this across the industry.

“We see the future of sports betting content being short-form, snackable video and audio content, as well as two-way, conversational live experiences, from events to SMS, streaming and everything in between,” Playmaker chief executive Brandon Harris said.

“We will create content and experiences that are fun, engaging and informative first, and naturally introduce sports betting into the conversation,” continued Harris.

In connection with the launch, Playmaker announced Jeff Gross as its latest high-profile investor, with the business to collaborate with the professional poker player to roll out a range of content.

This will include Gross’s podcast and a series following his World Series of Poker journey.

“Playmaker was a perfect fit; the sports industry is growing so quickly,” Gross said. “Betting is becoming less taboo and legalized at a federal level. Poker is coming back online in many states. People are going do it anyway, you want to show them good value spots, just do it responsibly.”

Playmaker chief commercial officer David Woodley added: “We are thrilled to bring on Jeff Gross as not only an investor, but an advisor as well. Jeff has already provided us several valuable alignments with his existing network and portfolio and will be announcing those partnerships later this month.”
