BetMGM approved for Indiana launch

News

BetMGM, the sports betting operator brand by the Roar Digital joint venture between MGM Resorts and GVC Holdings, has secured full approval to launch mobile wagering services in Indiana.

The Indiana Gaming Commission initially awarded BetMGM a temporary licence last month, with permission to conduct mobile sports betting under the Belterra Resort Indiana license.

However, the Commission said as it is satisfied that the BetMGM app operated in line with state regulations during the initial launch period, it has awarded full approval to Roar Digital.

The authorization is effective from today (February 25), with BetMGM having permission to roll out full mobile sports betting in the state.

Approval in Indiana comes after BetMGM last month launched in West Virginia in partnership with casino resort The Greenbrier. Last October, Roar Digital also rolled out the BetMGM app in New Jersey.

In January, Indiana sportsbooks set new records in handle and revenue for the month, even as online betting revenue dipped. Sportsbooks in the Hoosier state took in $12.9m in revenue, up by 7.3% from December 2019, on a handle of $170.8m, up 5.6%.

The new record high in handle meant that players in Indiana have bet more on sports with every month since the market opened on 1 September.
