Elys secures sports betting proprietor license in Ohio

News

Elys Game Technology has become one of the latest gambling businesses to secure a license in Ohio’s newly launched legal sports betting market.

Issued by the Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC), the Type C sports gaming proprietor license will enable Elys to roll out its sports betting technology in the state, which opened its regulated market on January 1 this year.

Incidentally, Elys’ license will run for a period of five years, beginning on January 1.

Elys first revealed plans to launch in Ohio in April last year when it entered into an exclusive sportsbook partnership with Wright Bet Ventures. Then, in November, Elys announced that it had secured conditional approval for a sports betting proprietor license in the state.

Launch plans

Prior to being issued with the new license, Elys said it had commenced programming of its technology platform to comply with betting compliance specifications of the Ohio Lottery.

Elys will actively puruse as many as 3,000 potentially approved host locations in the state, but initially plans to launch the agreed 100-plus host locations in phases beginning in the first half of 2023 and in time for certain major league sports seasons starting in August.

“With over 30 plus years of experience in the small business leisure betting sector, the company intends to invest in the right infrastructure to protect the integrity of the market and prior to launching, ensure problem-free operations for our hosts for years to come,” Elys said.

“We, and our partners, are committed to providing the best possible solution for sports bettors and long-term prosperity for our host operators in Ohio.”
