FireKeepers Casino launches igaming content in Michigan with SG

News

The tribal-owned FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek, Michigan has launched online casino and digital sports betting content in the state through a partnership with Scientific Games.

Since opening in 2009, FireKeepers Casino has become one of the biggest tribal gaming operators in the US, and launched its retail sportsbook through an initial deal with Scientific Games last year.

The deal for Scientific Games to supply its technology to the operator for igaming and retail sports betting was first signed in January 2020.

Now, Scientific Games will provide its full suite of digital technology to the operator, including its in-house gaming content via the OpenGaming ecosystem.

Alongside its range of online casino content, FireKeepers players will also be able to wager on sports via the Scientific Games OpenSports platform, which the supplier said has enjoyed unprecedented activity for major sporting events across the globe throughout 2021.

“We are pleased to partner with Scientific Games and bring their scalable platforms and content to our players, who are always the focus of our major initiatives,” said Kathy George, chief executive of FireKeepers Casino Hotel.

“We want to bring them a variety of entertainment opportunities and utilizing Scientific Games’ OpenGaming and OpenSports platforms will do just that.”

Cathryn Lai, SVP and general manager for US Digital at Scientific Games, added: “FireKeepers is unquestionably one of the leading casinos in Michigan and the Midwest, and partnering with them and launching our vast array of content on both the icasino and digital sports betting side will create an immersive experience for their players.”

Last month, Scientific Games announced plans to divest its lottery and sports betting businesses, in an effort to position the company for “sustainable growth”.

The supplier said it was exploring a range of options to offload the units, including a sale, a strategic combination with another business, an initial public offering or a combination with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).
