New Jersey igaming dashboard – July 2019

Insight | Data

iGaming Business and Ficom Leisure are pleased to present the New Jersey iGaming Dashboard, providing revenue and product metrics on the state’s regulated market.

The data is updated monthly following the official release of figures from New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement (NJDGE).

New Jersey saw a slight dip in igaming revenue but a much larger fall in sports betting handle last month, with the latter at an eight-month low.

While online poker held steady at $1.8m last month, other casino games fell slightly to $36.3m from $36.5m the previous month. Though this represented a month-on-month drop, the figure was up 74% on the same month last year, when GGR was $20.9m.

Despite the overall drop, two of the top five online casinos managed to increase their market share last month, with Borgata rising to 15.9% from 15.4% the previous month and Caesars Interactive rising to 13.0% from 11.7% in May.

On the other hand, Golden Nugget, Tropicana and Resorts Digital all experienced falls in their market share.

Online sports betting fell significantly last month, as did land-based betting. Turnover in the former fell to $226.7m from $263.6m in May, while the latter dropped to $46.5m from $55.4m.

For online, this was the lowest figure since last October, when the monthly turnover was $174.m.

There were significant market share changes last month, with Ocean Resort’s share rising to 10% from 3.9% in May and Meadowlands’ falling to 45.2% from 55.8% the previous month.

Golden Nugget entered the top five for the first time last month with a 1.6% market share. This could increase significantly in future if a bill proposed last month is passed.

As the law stands, Golden Nugget is prohibited from taking bets on any National Basketball Association (NBA) games because Tilman Fertitta, chairman, chief executive and sole owner of Golden Nugget’s parent company Landry’s, also owns (NBA) franchise the Houston Rockets.

If the bill passes, Golden Nugget will still be prohibited from offering bets on Houston Rockets games, but would be able to offer odds on other NBA games.

Golden Nugget is the market leader in igaming but in sports betting has lagged its competitors by some way since themarket opened up.
