New York’s del Lago prepares for DraftKings sportsbook launch

News

del Lago Resort & Casino in Waterloo, New York will join the list of New York casinos offering sports betting when the DraftKings Sportsbook at del Lago opens this Friday (23 August).

The sportsbook will feature more than 1,000-square-feet of LED video screens, a 6,000 sq. ft lounge, 20 self-service wagering kiosks, DraftKings cashier stations and a restaurant and bar.

Located between Syracuse and Rochester in Seneca County, Northwest New York, del Lago Casino opened in 2017 and is operated by JNB Gaming.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony at del Lago will take place at 12 p.m. EDT and will feature former Syracuse University and quarterback and 6-time NFL Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb.

The DraftKings Sportsbook at del Lago will be the fifth legal sportsbook in New York after rules approved by the state Gaming Commission in June permitted casinos in the state to take bets on sports in their facilities.

The Rivers Casino & Resort in Schenectady was the first licensed venue in New York to accept legal sports bets on 16 July, while Tioga Downs Casino in Nichols followed with its FanDuel-powered sportsbook on 19 July. In August, Scientific Games Corporation and the Oneida Indian Nation launched two Caesars-branded sportsbooks in the state: Turning Stone Resort in Verona and Point Place Casino in Bridgeport. However, mobile betting remains illegal after a bill from Senator Joseph Addabbo failed to pass the Assembly.

Casinos that opt to launch a land-based service will pay a 10% tax on sports betting revenue.

The first 16 days of legal wagering in New York saw $349,468 worth of revenue generated by the sportsbooks at Rivers Casino and Tioga Downs. Rivers Casino accounted for $294,249 of the total, while Tioga Downs took in $55,219.
