Pennsylvania iGaming Dashboard – February 2021

Insight | Data

Pennsylvania’s igaming market grew again in January, continuing its streak of record monthly revenue into 2021, though online betting revenue slowed because of lower margins.

iGaming Business and Ficom Leisure are delighted to present the Pennsylvania iGaming Dashboard, providing a monthly breakdown of the latest figures from the Keystone State’s regulated gambling market.

The data is updated monthly following the official release of figures from the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

Both online slots and online casino games beat the previous records set in December 2020. Slots brought in $51.0m, up 10.3% from December 2020, while table game revenue grew 33.9% month-on-month to $26.7m.

Poker revenue, meanwhile, was steady at $2.7m.

After taking the top spot in the online casino market the previous month, Penn National Gaming – which is partnered with DraftKings – strengthened its status as market leader with its market share growing slightly to 34.3%.

Rivers Casino, meanwhile, saw its share decline to 26.1%, while FanDuel partner Valley Forge remained in third place, with its share rising to 18.3%. No other operator held more than an 8% market share.

Online sports betting revenue declined by 9.0% to $29.9m in January, down from December 2020’s record high of $32.9m. However, this was not a sign of any drop in enthusiasm among bettors but rather due to poor margins as more money was wagered in January than in the previous month.

Retail revenues were up 233% on the previous month at $4m, though this still represented a fall on the same month of 2020, when revenues were $4.9m.

There were significant shifts in the market shares of the leading sports betting operators in January, most notably at Hollywood Casino with its Barstool Sportsbook.

After suddenly jumping into first place in December 2020 with a 40.9% share of state-wide GGR, the operator plummeted to seventh in January 2021 with just 3.8% of the market, despite only a modest decline in handle.

With Hollywood losing the top spot, FanDuel and Valley Forge moved back into the top position, with a 42.5% market share. DraftKings, which has a partnership with Meadows, followed with 23.2%.
